Going to look at an ‘87 pre-facelift Peugeot 205 CTI this weekend. Tell me oppo, is there anything in the pictures or description that I should be worried about?
The ad tells me the following:
Power window passenger side doesn’t function (I’ve got a replacement motor/mechanism from my GTI lying around)
Remus muffler (ugh)
K&N air filter (ugh)
Sport pedals (tripple ugh)
Radio with CD changer
1.9 GTI wheels
Guttman bumper kit on the front (interesting...)
213k km
(highish, but no problem)
Ad is up since July. It passed inspection in July as well.
Owner told me it’s got a 10 cm rust spot on a sill, that hasn’t rusted through. You also have to guide the driver side window a little as there’s a little part missing (which I might have).
The ad doesn’t mention the convertible roof, nor did the seller when I asked about issues. It’s sadly not visible in the pictures.
My observations:
I ran the plates: the car hasn’t changed hand since 2003 ( good! )
Looks to be situated in a relatively affluent area.
Interior looks tired. Can it be cleaned properly? Front seats and steering wheel mostly.
Front indicators should be changed to period-correct amber. (€7 a piece, new)
Grille should be painted
Anything I’m overlooking here?

My buddy had one of these in a die cast. Awesome. Plus the muffle is awesome for Brappening. If you hate brappening you are no jalop friend of mine.

That’s a fun looking car! Do you still have the red CTI?

No, I
auctioned
off the red CTI convertible. For a healthy profit. I do still have the red ‘88 205 GTI hatch. And the 306 cab and 406 coupe :)

Clearly, you need to bring the Pug count back up, then! Only 3 is unhealthy.

Agreed! I do have to admit I’m tempted by this ‘88 Renault 5 GTX on German Ebay though, even when I don’t tend to like Renaults.

Is the brappening similar to the fappening?

Rust. Seller says it’s only a 10cm patch that hasn’t gone through but there could be all manner of horrors if you get under the car. Then again if it was structural it would have presumably been picked up on testing.

Agreed. It’s something to look out for. That it has passed inspection means it’s not unsafe, or at least wasn’t at the time. These aren’t known to rust excessively, but it is 28+ years old so anything could’ve happened. The owner (since 2003) does seem to have a garage.

was this part originally the same color as the carpet?

Those are the aftermarket ‘sports pedals’. If I were to buy the car and I’d get the chance I’ll rip them out.

Yes and no. Some of the red should be, but the picture isn’t doing the red any favors. (note the original pedals)

Is it lowered? Looks a little lower than stock to me.

That’s more like it :D

Rear looks stock to me, front might be a little bit lower.
